Artist Statement: Federico Savini

I always loved images

I always loved creating images.

I always thought they have magical powers.

I never believed they hold any truth.

I know they always lie.

I have never been interested in the story they tell.

I love them because they have a life of their own, and when they are good, they irradiate pleasure.

And that is how I become an artist: for the pleasure of it and for all the lies i can tell.

1975. When I started my fine art studies, there were no photography schools and photography wasn't considered a career or a profession, but didn't take too long to find out the power that the camera has to "capture" with precision. At the same time, the rigidity and the mechanical aspects of the process made me suspicious.
I never knew who deserved more credit, nikon or I, and besides, the camera was trying to tell the truth while all i wanted was to tell lies.

1985. I discovered the personal computer and that changed the creativity equation. I immediately felt an affinity for the computer. We both were wired to manipulate, even if I had to wait until the nineties for the computers to be able to digest images properly.

2010. When I was ten years old, I remember fearing that i may never make it to the 3rd millennium. Now that I'm in it, the future is open.
